Something that a lot of folks don’t quite understand, and neither did I until I did a little research on it, is why do we even have car insurance excess?  Well, what I found out was that insurers have that in order to keep people from making all kinds of minor claims that just aren’t cost effective to have to cover.  For example, let us say that you hit a mail box and busted your headlamp.  Replacing it isn’t going to cost you much, so you don’t need to claim it, right?  But if you were to claim it, you would end up having to pay the full excess just to fix that one small, inexpensive thing.  Make sense now?
