New Solar Cells Could Make Homemade Solar Panels Very Lucrative

IMEC presented a new solar cell at the European Photovoltiac Solar Energy Conference in Hamburg Germany. Homemade solar panel builders would be very interested in this new find as it cuts the costs for solar panels even more. The new solar cell had a conversion rate of 18,4% which means that all sun light that hits it, 18,4% gets converted into electricity. What is new with this solar cell is that it uses copper instead of silver contacts.
However, IMEC has no plan to stop their research. The goal is to create a solar cell that’s 40 micro meters thick and at the same time with a convertion above 20%. It sounds extreme but didn’t nuclear power seem strange a 100 years ago?
