Flights to Nasik nearby in the serene environs of a wooded land are located the Parsi Towers of Silence. Parsis are an enterprising business community, who has contributed a lot in the growth and embellishment of the city. They are the followers of Zoroastrian faith who had fled religious persecution in Iran in the 7th century. They found a ready refuge in India. The Parsis hold both, water and fire as sacred and so do not cremate or bury their dead bodies. Instead they are laid out on one of the five towers of Silence comprising their magnificent cemetery.
